Singer-songwriter Evan Honer’s 2024 was majorly successful, encompassing not only the release of his sophomore album, Fighting For, and two EPs, but also his gorgeous, star-turning cover of Tyler Childers’ standard “Jersey Giant,” which has surpassed 250 million streams across all platforms. This year is already shaping up to be another all-timer for Honer: Today, he’s shared his second single of the year, “Everything I Wanted,” via his own label, Cloverdale Records. Furthermore, he’s announced nationwide tour dates, spanning from next week through early August.
Listeners accustomed to the rawness of Honer’s sparse Americana narratives are in for a surprise with “Everything I Wanted,” a pop-rock elegy that courses with explosive energy. Shocks of electric guitar punctuate the driving melody, packing punches as walloping as Honer’s wrenching laments. An attention-demanding anthem from its crunchy opening chords to the cathartic collapse of its finale, “Everything I Wanted” is a thrilling step forward for Honer.
“This is the first of the songs that we recorded for my third album, and it’s so awesome to finally have a studio version of the song we have been playing live for so long,” Honer says. “Having this be the first song of the album roll out hints that there is gonna be a change in sound and I am very excited to be evolving into something new for me. I hope people enjoy it as much as I enjoy playing it live!”
