Nicole Kidman Discovers Small-Town Deceit in First Trailer for Holland

If there’s one thing about the cinematic small Midwestern town that is an absolute certainty, it’s that the sleepy, picturesque community is definitely hiding a dark, psychological underbelly. And damn it, Nicole Kidman is going to root that shit out, if the first trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ Holland is to be believed. The psychological thriller from director Mimi Cave (Fresh) has been in the works for going on a decade at this point, filmed in 2023, and is finally arriving on Amazon Prime Video on March 27 after it premieres at SXSW on March 9, 2025.

It’s the continuation of a thriving period in Kidman’s senior citizen career, stretching back to Hulu’s rewarding Nine Perfect Strangers in 2021, and recently including the critical and commercial success of A24’s erotic thriller Babygirl. In Holland, meanwhile, Kidman is playing a Midwestern mom with a seemingly idyllic life, who begins to wonder if her husband (Matthew Macfadyen) is leading some kind of twisted double life, leading to her teaming up with one of her son’s school teachers (Gael García Bernal) to investigate. Amusingly, this is all taking place in Holland, Michigan, a sleepy B&B community I’ve actually visited in the past–mostly known as a weekend getaway spot for folks in Chicago or other Michigan cities. Here, they’re clearly leaning into its Dutch history.

The trailer below is full of gaudy imagery, which seems to hint at a dark sense of comic sensibility for Holland–there’s even a quick shot at one point that makes a Pomeranian look threatening and possessed by secret knowledge, which is a neat trick. Expect it to all build to a cathartic explosion of truth and violence. Check out the trailer below, and brace yourself for the arrival of Holland on Amazon Prime on March 27.
