The 5 New TV Shows You Can’t Miss in September

Yes, the calendar says summer officially ends on September 21st. But I hate to break it to you, once Labor Day comes and goes and the kids go back to school and everyone expects you to work the whole day on a Friday, summer is officially over.

But fear not, the end of summer brings So. Much. TV. And we here at Paste TV are all over it. From the Emmy Awards on September 22nd to the final season of The Good Place to the 27th new and returning shows you can’t miss this Fall we have got you covered with our upcoming Fall TV Guide.

But since we don’t want anything to slip through the cracks on your remote (or your computer screen), here are a selection of 5 new and under-the-radar shows you can’t miss this month:

1. Couples Therapy
Executive Producers: Josh Kriegman, Elyse Steinberg, and Eli Despres
Stars: Dr. Orna Guralnik
Premiere Date: September 6th at 10 p.m. on Showtime

Therapist Dr. Orna Guralnik meets weekly with couples in the throes of crisis and helps them navigate the tricky landscape of their relationship to get back to a healthy place and realize why they made a commitment to each other in the first place. The featured couples put their guard down and lay bare all their issues not just for Dr. Guralnik but for viewers as well. Kriegman, Steinberg and Despres are the team behind the 2016 acclaimed documentary Weiner and know how to get their subjects to forget the cameras are on them. It’s an unflinching, difficult, and fascinating look at the minutia of relationships. All nine episodes will be available on demand and on the Showtime streaming platforms when the show premieres on September 6th.

2. A Very Brady Renovation
Stars: Barry Williams, Maureen McCormick, Christopher Knight, Eve Plumb , Mike Lookinland and Susan Olsen, Jonathan Scott, Drew Scott and Lara Spencer
Premiere Date: September 9 at 9 p.m. on HGTV

Here’s a story about a franchise that is still going strong 50 years after The Brady Bunch first premiered. Everyone’s favorite on-screen siblings reunite to turn the house, whose outside was used as the façade for the Brady home, into a replica of the show’s set on the inside. In a savvy move, HGTV purchased the house when it went on the market in 2018 and then reunited the cast with many of their own renovation stars to transform the iconic property. In the process they added 2,000 square feet to the home and searched high and low for all the vintage furniture and décor that populated the series. At the end of the series, a lucky contestant will win a very Brady vacation in the home.

3. First Wives Club
Executive Producers: Tracy Oliver, Karen Rosenfelt and Scott Rudin
Stars: Michelle Buteau, Jill Scott and Ryan Michelle Bathe
Premiere Date: September 19th on BET+

BET gets in on the streaming platform frenzy and launches BET+ with First Wives Club, which is inspired by the 1996 Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton movie of the same name. This time Hazel (Jill Scott) discovers that her husband has been cheating on her and reunites with her best friends from college Bree (Michelle Buteau) and Ari (Ryan Michelle Bath) to sort out her life and maybe get a little revenge in the process. The series has been around for a while—it was originally developed for TV Land—so it’s great for these women to finally be hitting the small screen. Keep an eye out for their version of the movie’s now iconic take on “You Don’t Own Me.”

4. All Rise
Executive Producers: Greg Spottiswood, Len Goldstein, Michael Robin and Sunil Nayar
Stars: Simone Missick, Wilson Bethel, Marg Helgenberger, Jessica Camacho, J. Alex Brinson, Lindsay Mendez, and Ruthie Ann Miles
Premiere Date: September 23rd at 9 p.m. on CBS

Newly appointed Judge Lola Carmichael (Simone Missick) is determined to bring a different energy and outlook to her Los Angeles courtroom. She won’t accept a plea deal when she thinks a defendant is innocent and won’t suffer any fools in her courtroom. Missick’s charismatic performance makes this series different from all the other legal procedurals that dominate the airwaves and Ruthie Ann Miles is a standout as Lola’s clerk who has her own way of keeping the courtroom running and isn’t prepared for Judge Carmichael’s new way of doing business.

5. Godfather of Harlem
Executive Producers: Forest Whitaker, Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein
Stars: Forest Whitaker, Nigel Thatch, Giancarlo Esposito, Ifenesh Hadera, Vincent D’Onofrio, Chazz Palminteri, Paul Sorvino
Premiere Date: September 29th at 10 p.m. on Epix

Forest Whitaker stars real-life crime boss Bumpy Johnson who returns from prison in the 1960s ready to reclaim his rightful position as leader of his community. The only problem? During the 11 years he was gone the Italian mafia took over, and now Bumpy must face the Genovese family and crime boss Chin Gigante (Vincent D’Onofrio) in a battle for the neighborhood. Along the way, he meets Malcom X (Nigel Thatch) who also wants to transform Harlem. This 10-episode series could be the destination viewing Epix has been seeking.
