Provoker Announce Third Album Mausoleum, Share Single “Another Boy”

We’ve been fans of Los Angeles-based trio Provoker going on four years now—ever since we  featured them as the Best of What’s Next back in 2021 and highlighted their first album Body Jumper as one of the best debut records that year—so of course we’re delighted to share that the group will release their third album Mausoleum on May 9 via YEAR0001. 

Band members Christian Crow Petty, Jonathon Lopez and Wil Palacios are horror obsessives, and they used this cinematic lens in the creation of Mausoleum, which was partly inspired by Petty’s “thoughts of hauntings while holed up in an Echo Park attic,” as per a press release. Production of the album was headed up by Kenneth Blume, a.k.a. Kenny Beats, who’s worked with the likes of Vince Staples, IDLES and Rachel Chinouriri, to name a few. Elliot Kozell (Yves Tumor, SZA), Simon Christensen (Gunna, Young Thug), Mikey Freedom Hart (Blood Orange, Lana Del Rey) and Zach Fogarty (Jean Dawson, Eyedress) also came on board to lend a hand in the production of Mausoleum. 

Today, Provoker have shared their new single “Another Boy” from Mausoleum, and if this is any indication, it seems they’re headed full-tilt into new wave territory—and we’re not mad about it. The band channel Tears for Fears as Petty’s deep, mournful voice contrasts with celestial synths and caffeinated drum machine. The accompanying music video, directed by Andrea Riba, shows off their love for the eerie, with the three guys starring as creepily dark-eyed mannequins trying to escape a shop.
