Tyler, The Creator Drops New Single “Noid” and Anxiety-Laced Music Video

A week from today, Grammy Award-winning iconoclast Tyler, The Creator shares his new album Chromakopia via Columbia Records. But we’re living in 2024, the era of TikTok and ever-shortening attention spans—the people demand content now. And, thankfully, our Creator has provided: The rapper released his new single “Noid” today and an anxiety-laced, self-directed music video.

“Noid” signals a slight sonic shift for Tyler, The Creator, punctuated by buzzing guitar, but then the song harkens back to the likes of his earlier albums Flower Boy and IGOR as it closes on horn-like synths. Ironically enough for a track about pervasive fear, much of “Noid” has an easy, languid grooviness to it—that is, save for when a siren-like synth, barely audible, builds in the background. It may be muted, but the anxiety is always there, always anticipating danger.

The video itself is a skin-crawling look at fame-induced paranoia. Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Bottoms) approaches Tyler with her phone, frantically asking for a picture, but the object in her hand turns into a gun in his overly suspicious eyes. Tyler’s doors are adorned with locks, and he imagines himself being robbed when he looks in the mirror; this is a state of mind in which even your shadow seems untrustworthy.

Watch the video for “Noid” below. And as we count down to Chromakopia’s release on October 28, reacquaint yourself with Tyler, The Creator’s 2021 album, Call Me If You Get Lost, by reading our review here.
