Watch Jon Stewart Speak Out Against Trump’s “Vindictive Chaos” on Colbert

The much-missed host of The Daily Show Jon Stewart made a surprise visit on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night. Stewart’s last appearance on the show was before Donald Trump’s election, and he returned last night to mock Trump and his string of alarming executive orders. Wearing a comically long red tie and a dead animal on his head—deadpanning, “I thought this is how men dress now. The president sets men’s fashion”—Stewart, posing as Trump, read a list of ridiculous executive orders, such as buying the Great Wall from China. “When the Wall arrives on the southern border, we shut the lights, we pretend we’re not home. It’s C.O.D. Mexico has to sign for it. Boom. They pay for it. Done,” said Stewart-as-Trump. He also declared the new official language of the United States to be “Bullshit,” and warned of his “going full Palpatine with the lightning coming out of the fingertips.”
Stewart broke character to say, “It has been 11 days, Stephen. 11 fucking days. The presidency is supposed to age the president, not the public,” to loud applause. Toward the end of the segment, Stewart, back to posing as Trump, took on a more serious tone:
We have never faced this before. Purposeful, vindictive chaos. But perhaps therein lies the saving grace of I, Donald J. Trump’s presidency. No one action will be adequate. All action will be necessary. And if we do not allow Donald Trump to exhaust our fight, and somehow come through this presidency calamity-less and constitutionally partially intact, then I, Donald J. Trump, will have demonstrated the greatness of America, just not how I thought I was gonna.
This rallying call roused great applause and a generally sense of nostalgia for the days of The Daily Show. The deep-seated comedic chemistry between Stewart and Colbert is undeniable, and even though both men are clearly rattled by the news coming out of the White House, they still managed to make us laugh. See for yourself above.
