Longtime fans of instant cult classic/obscure pop culture bastion The Venture Bros. have long since trained to be patient folks. The beloved Adult Swim series was always known for long gaps and delays between new seasons and episodes, as the notably small operation was, like super science, not something it is wise to rush. It was only fitting, then, that the long-promised Venture Bros. movie would likewise be a project a long time in coming, often seemingly in limbo since the show’s final season concluded in 2018. And although it still doesn’t have a concrete release date besides “later this year,” we can at least feel confident that the film is coming our way sooner rather than later, as Adult Swim released the first actual footage from the film today. Oh yeah, and the full title is The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart. Yes, that is the actual title. No, we don’t have any clue what it means either. We do, however, have something of a synopsis from Adult Swim, which is as follows:
The Venture Bros. are back in an all-new movie picking up after the events from the shocking season 7 finale! In The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart a nationwide manhunt for Hank Venture leads to untold dangers and unexpected revelations, while The Monarch is literally out for Dr. Venture’s blood. An imposing evil from the past reemerges to wreak havoc on the Ventures, The Guild, and even the Monarch marriage—it will take friends and foes alike to restore the Ventures’ world to order … or end it once and for all.
Considering that Dr. Venture once invented a device he called the “joy can,” which granted fantasies and was powered by the heart of a forsaken orphan, we can only imagine that Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart will also be well steeped in darkness. The first clip below, meanwhile, seems to show family bodyguard and beloved Swedish Murder Machine Brock Samson (Patrick Warburton, who we interviewed about the show recently) making a grisly discovery … but we know The Venture Bros. well enough to spot a misdirection when we see one.
The Venture Bros. originally debuted in 2004, and went on to become one of Adult Swim’s most critically acclaimed offerings with its sharp satire of vintage animated series, pop culture and the scientific world. The film gives creators Chris McCulloch (also known as “Jackson Publick”) and Doc Hammer a chance to close out the story with a definitive conclusion, while bringing back all the expected core voice cast, including James Urbaniak, Warburton, Steven Rattazzi and themselves. Also on board are performers including Clancy Brown, John Hodgman, Charles Parnell, Jay Pharoah, JK Simmons and Dana Snyder. We’ll be keeping an eye out for an official release date on Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, hoping that it’s sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, check out the clip below.
