Comic Book Turned Videogame Battle Chasers: Nightwar Arrives on the Switch

Battler Chasers: Nightwar releases on the Nintendo Switch today, Tuesday, May 15, according to THQ Nordic. The turn-based RPG is actually based on a best-selling book of the same name from the ‘90s, published under the Wildstorm Imprint. Now, Image Comics owns the rights to the series.

The game features a mix of dungeon crawling and turn-based combat, taking its influences from old-school JRPGs. What interesting is that the game doesn’t only focus on turn-based combat. Dungeons are randomly generated with hazards, puzzles and secrets. Players can make up a party of three, featuring characters from the comic book, each with their own special abilities to take on enemies and dungeons.

Battler Chasers: Nightwar previously released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC to generally favorable reviews back in October of 2017. The game joins the Nintendo Switch’s growing list of indie games, making it the go-to system for indie visibility. Currently, there are more than 600 titles available on the Nintendo Switch’s online store.

This is developer Airship Syndicate’s first game. The studio is made up of former industry vets of Vigil Games, the same studio who created the Darksiders franchise. It is also lead by comic book writer and creator of the original Battle Chasers comic book, Joe Madureira. THQ Nordic has a habit of publishing notable indie games, including Ori and the Blind Forest, State of Decay, Sine Mora and Broken Age. Here’s hoping they bring more to consoles like the Switch.
