The Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight Recreated in Punch-Out! Is Less Expensive, Still Disappointing

Before Saturday night’s festivities got underway and long before groups of half-drunken cohorts gathered around their television sets for the “Fight of the Century,” we could have predicted the response to the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. So maybe there was some glimmer of hope that Manny came away with a knockout punch over Mayweather but most everyone imagined both contestants would be in it for the long haul. Disappointment was inevitable for most everyone watching. It’s impossible to live up to all that hype. But one YouTuber had the ending, and pretty much the whole fight for that matter, predicted with a single recreation of the bout in Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!

A guy calling himself Noober Goober uploaded the video on the Saturday of the pay-per-view before the event was broadcast for the world to witness. The outcome wasn’t all too hard given Mayweather was the odds-on favorite to walk away with the win. But more surprising than the end results of the video are the stipulations which the player must accept before competing. In line with Mayweather’s reputation, each competitor must agree to wear his gloves, fight at the MGM, be drug tested daily, receive less money, not be in his prime, stay in the hotel basement and of course sell TMT t-shirts.

Once the actual gameplay starts, we see more of the same hugging routine we would expect from Mayweather with Pacquiao stating at one point, “This must be really boring to casual fans.” Mayweather replies by adding, “It doesn’t matter. We already got their money.”

To check out the recreation, watch the video above. We promise not to charge you $100 for anything you’ll regret later.
