Hustlers May Not Get a Sequel, But We’ll Settle for a Broadway Musical

While it may not have gotten a lot of love at the Golden Globes this past weekend, Hustlers may very well continue to be a cultural phenomenon. In an interview with Variety on the Golden Globes red carpet, director Lorene Scafaria said that the process of developing Hustlers for the stage is currently underway.
The musical would feature both original songs as well as a selection of early ’00s hits, with an emphasis on Usher’s music (he briefly appeared in the film and had his songs featured).
“It’s gonna depend [on] what Usher lets us do,” said Scafaria. “So much depends on Usher, really.”
The cast of Hustlers would be well-suited for Broadway—J. Lo, Lizzo, Cardi B and Keke Palmer are all singers—and they already have the moves to maneuver a pole. But it’s unclear whether the cast will reprise their roles for the stage.
