Watch the Horrifying Trailer for the Remake of Jacob’s Ladder

Reimagining the 1990 cult classic of the same name, director David M. Rosenthal is bringing the horrors of Jacob’s Ladder back to the big screen in his forthcoming remake of the film, per Entertainment Weekly.

Opening Aug. 23, the film stars The Perfect Guy actor Michael Ealy as Jacob Singer, a surgeon in a VA hospital who is beginning to get his life back together after the death of his brother in Afghanistan. With a wife and newborn baby, life seems fine until his supposedly dead brother reappears and says he’s been living underground with other war vets for the past year. From there, Jacob’s life unravels, and he experiences terrifying hallucinations and encounters as he attempts to figure out what actually happened to his brother.

Rounding out the cast, Grey’s Anatomy and The Cabin in the Woods star Jesse Williams will portray Jacob’s brother Isaac, while Sleepy Hollow actress Nicole Beharie is set to play Jacob’s wife.

Rosenthal previously directed Netflix’s How It Ends, as well as the crime drama A Single Shot with Sam Rockwell.

The forthcoming film is a reimagining of the 1990 horror thriller from Adrian Lyne starring Tim Robbins. Fairly different from the remake, the original Jacob’s Ladder tells the tale of a war veteran dealing with the death of his child while suffering from a severe case of dissociation and PTSD.
