Amazon MGM’s Tiger Woods Biopic in Production Talks with Obama’s Higher Ground

Amazon MGM Studios has secured the rights to Tiger Woods’ biopic, based on Kevin’s Cook’s book The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played. Reinaldo Marcus Green, director of King Richard (2021), the feature film chronicling the rise of Serena and Venus Williams, is reportedly attached. Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground is in talks to produce.

Cook, a former Sports Illustrated editor and Golf Magazine editor in chief, offers a look into Woods’ remarkable career, detailing Tiger Woods’ rise to golf greatness and the barriers that threatened him both on and off the course. Woods holds 15 major championship wins, including 82 PGA Tour victories. Cook details Woods’ iconic 1997 Masters victory, in which Woods won by the largest margin in history and became the first Black golfer to secure a major. Woods returned to Augusta National four years later, seizing victory and an unprecedented fourth Grand Slam win.

Years after the climax of his career, Tiger Woods steadily fell from grace, spiraling into what he described as sex addiction. He engaged in numerous extramarital affairs and was arrested for drunk driving in 2017. The latter part of Woods’ career has been characterized by frequent injuries consequent of continued physical strain. Drama surrounding his scandals and injuries will not be covered in the film.

No timeline for the film has been released, but the announcement comes as a reaffirmation of Amazon MGM’s intention to increase investment in feature films. The studio recently announced its intention to release 12 to 14 features in 2026.

Cook is represented by CAA and David Halpern Literary Management and published by Avid Reader Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. Green is represented by WME and Granderson des Rochers.
