Portland-based singer-songwriter Haley Heynderickx has announced her sophomore album, Seed of a Seed, which is set to arrive digitally on November 1 (and physically on December 6) via Mama Bird Recording Co. It’s her first LP release since 2018’s I Need to Start a Garden, a record she stopped by the Paste Studio to perform songs from that same year, including “Oom Sha La La.” After quietly releasing the Seed of a Seed title track back in July, Heynderickx is following it up today with “Foxglove,” a wishful stroll through the forestry gardens of the folk artist’s lush inner world.
“Foxglove” is reflective and immersive, like how it feels to stop in your tracks to take a meditative deep breath amidst the bustle. Amongst crafted finger-picks and gentle, feathery drum hits, Heynderickx drifts and spins through scenes of escaping city life and skipping among the fauna of this fantasy. “Oh daydream die slow,” she chants near the end, pleading with the flowers to make this feeling last forever.
“’Foxglove’ is my daydream tune craving a slower and simpler pace of life,” Heynderickx says. “Sometimes it all feels so far away—living in a city being so removed from a life entwined with nature.”
