EXCLUSIVE: Peter One Premieres New Song “Sweet Rainbow”
The Ivory Coast-born, Nashville-based country-folk hero's first album in 30 years, Come Back To Me, arrives tomorrow via Verve

This week, 67-year-old country-folk hero Peter One will release his major label solo debut, Come Back To Me. The album marks his beloved return to music 30 years after becoming an icon on the Ivory Coast. After spending more than two decades working as a nurse, One is giving his passion another shot with a project spanning many influences—fusing everything from afropop to French chanson.
“Sweet Rainbow” is a blissful, heartfelt acoustic tune that puts Peter One’s breathtaking vocals at the forefront of a delicate acoustic strum. As a pedal steel quietly hums behind him, the song unfolds into an atmospheric, triumphant folk tune worth running back a hundred times. Come Back To Me is a welcomed return for one of our finest songwriters, and “Sweet Rainbow” proves that, in the 30 years he’s been away, Peter One hasn’t missed a beat.
“‘Sweet Rainbow’ is a love song. In this song, the girlfriend is like a rainbow because her background is of many different cultures. For one reason or another, we broke up and I’m just telling her to come back and forget about the past, for anything that happened. I’ll forgive her. Tell me a white lie. Just lie, and then we forget about it,” One says about the track.
