Indie-folk singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten has followed up her 2019 album Remind Me Tomorrow with new single “Beaten Down.”
“‘Beaten Down’ is about love, patience and empathy,” says Van Etten. “It’s about making life-changing choices and remaining strong enough to see them through.”
The John Congleton-produced track, released Wednesday, was accompanied by a psychedelic, desert-set video directed by Nicky and Juliana Giraffe.
“Beaten Down” marks the continuation of a busy few years for Van Etten, who, also an actress, has appeared in Netflix’s The OA, Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival and the Sundance film Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always.
Musically, Van Etten released Remind Me Tomorrow in 2019—we named it one of last year’s very best albums—and is continuing to tour in support of the album this spring across the Southeast.
