The Voidz Get Robotized on New Mac DeMarco-Produced Single

Oh, to live in a world where The Voidz sample a video dating montage from the ‘80s and slowly warp it into a tangled knot of vocoders and loopy synths.

That’s right—Julian Casablancas and his formidable pack of rockers are back with a new Mac DeMarco- and Kirin J. Callinan-produced single, “The Eternal Tao.”

Mashing together crunchy guitars with hurried, poppy drums, the song finds Casablancas spitting musings about Eastern philosophy into plinky, robotized vocoders. “Nothing’s black or white, it’s all gray / Honesty without tact is cruelty,” he contemplates as the drum loop spins around him, but not before reminding us: “Realistically optimistic, I’m a philosopher, not a mystic.”

“The Eternal Tao” is the band’s first single since releasing their sophomore album Virtue in 2018. It arrives in the midst of Cult Records’ 10th Anniversary NYC Takeover, during which Casablancas’s label is holding a pop-up shop, and the band is playing Brooklyn’s Market Hotel with Promiseland and True Blue.

The Voidz have a few independent and festival dates lined up for this summer. Check out the new single and the band’s upcoming dates below.
