Tyler, the Creator, released a surprise track on Thursday morning called “OKRA.” The new single, described as a “throwaway” by the artist in the song’s YouTube video description, comes as a stand-alone track, following his Grammy-nominated 2017 album Flower Boy.
Tyler tweeted that he recorded “OKRA” in January “on some rap shit before tour just talking.” He added that he decided a few days ago, “i should shoot something to this and just put it out for fun and move on with my life or it’ll sit on my hard drive like alot of other things.”
The single’s music video, directed by Tyler’s alter ego, Wolf Haley, features a split-camera screen that follows the artist through multiple filters.
Last year, the artist released another one-off track, “ZIPLOC,” a freestyle over the beat from Jay-Z’s 4:44 title track.
While Tyler has remained in comfortable obscurity since the release of his last album (except for his ongoing 2018 tour), the musician is apparently returning once more to promote his new single, saying on Twitter:
i will promote this song for the next 5 days, then continue to live a normal life, thank you, holla
