Late last year, one internet inhabitant created a Twitter account with one goal in mind: to convince Weezer to cover Toto’s “Africa.” The profile, @WeezerAfrica, communicated varying degrees of heckling, occasionally calling out Rivers Cuomo himself. The Weezer super-fan (determined by Noisey to be a 14-year-old girl) never faltered in her fight, as displayed in this tweet from May of this year.
hey weezer should cover africa

On Thursday, Weezer smugly responded by releasing a cover of Toto’s much less popular, but maybe just as lyrically uncomplicated, “Rosanna.” They tweeted the song directly at the “Africa” account, to which she promptly responded. Looks like @WeezerAfrica won’t be getting that “Africa” cover any time soon—sigh, a troll’s work is never done. You can check out the tweets below.
The Weezer cover sounds a lot like the original, but with more guitar and less snaps. You can give it a listen below, too.
