Chicago band Whitney have announced an extensive run of headlining tour dates that will take them across the U.S., U.K. and Europe this fall, possibly hinting at a release window for their forthcoming new album, which they recently revealed is “100% recorded.” The newly announced U.S. dates begin on Sept. 13 in Austin, Texas, and conclude on Nov. 2 in Los Angeles, with the rest of November and early December spent touring through Europe and the U.K.
Whitney includes a rotating cast of seven members, but its leaders and primary songwriters are drummer and vocalist Julien Ehrlich, and lead guitarist Max Kakacek. Their debut album Light Upon the Lake arrived in the summer of 2016 and was widely lauded for its blend of breezy ‘70s rock, country and Chicago soul. It earned the band countless year-end accolades, including one from Paste, as well as several TV spots and an interview between Ehrlich and Elton John in the New York Times.
Whitney are set to get back in the swing of things before their headlining tour with appearances at a number of festivals this summer, including the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. Their fall tour features stops at Brooklyn Steel in New York, The Wiltern in Los Angeles, Union Transfer in Philadelphia and The Warfield Theater in San Francisco. A pre-sale for the tour is currently available for members of the band’s email list, and the general sale begins this Friday, March 8.
