Whitney Share Folky, Sentimental New Track, "Used To Be Lonely"

Whitney shared a new track, “Used To Be Lonely,” complete with rustic instrumentals and heartfelt lyrics on Tuesday, along with its coinciding music video.

“Used To Be Lonely” features soulful horns, orchestral strings, twangy electric guitar licks and dazzling piano notes all within its backing instrumentals.

Its music video was directed by Austin Vesely and pays homage to Whitney’s hometown of Chicago. It features shots of significant places throughout The Windy City, such as the Music Box Theatre and Lake Michigan’s shoreline.

“Well, it made no sense at all / until you came along,” vocalist Julien Ehrlich sings with his signature falsetto on the new love song. “I’m afraid you’re letting go / ‘cause the only life I’ve ever known used to be lonely.”

As a press release puts it, the track “tackles the blissful confusion that comes from seeing the way things unexpectedly change over time.”

“Used To Be Lonely” is the fourth new single from the acclaimed “country soul” band. In June, they announced that their long-awaited second studio album, Forever Turned Around, is on its way.

The band, led by Ehrlich (lead vocals, drums) and Max Kakacek (guitar), previously released “FTA” and “Giving Up” that same month, following with “Valleys (My Love)” in July.

All four tracks will appear on Whitney’s forthcoming LP, Forever Turned Around, out Aug. 30 via Secretly Canadian.

They also announced that they will tour the U.S. this fall and are set to play four hometown shows in December.
