Useless Political Man Holds Dumb Presser, Won’t Deny He Called President a Moron

Short story: In a meaningless, unnecessary press conference, of State SecretaryRex Tillerson played the stupid “aw shucks” card, didn’t resign, and refused to comment on whether he ever called President Trump a moron.

Slightly longer story: Tillerson has been in the spotlight this morning because of an NBC News story with some spicy, spicy allegations. Such as:

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was on the verge of resigning this past summer amid mounting policy disputes and clashes with the White House, according to multiple senior administration officials who were aware of the situation at the time.

The tensions came to a head around the time President Donald Trump delivered a politicized speech in late July to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization Tillerson once led, the officials said.

Just days earlier, Tillerson had openly disparaged the president, referring to him as a “moron,” after a July 20 meeting at the Pentagon with members of Trump’s national security team and Cabinet officials, according to three officials familiar with the incident.

After some pep talks from Mike Pence (who probably used the word “mother” a bunch, all creepy-like) and other administration officials (James Mattis and John Kelly reportedly “begged” him to stay), Tillerson stayed on. Sources on CNN indicate that Trump learned of the “moron” incident, but clearly didn’t fire him. He also didn’t fire him in August when Tillerson responded to a question about Trump’s mangling of the Charlottesville violence with a laconic, “the president speaks for himself,” which reportedly infuriated the president. Then, this past weekend, Trump undermined Tillerson’s North Korea diplomacy with a pair of tweets:

Whether that prompted someone to spill the beans about the summer’s tiffs between Tillerson or Trump, or the timing was purely coincidental, it created a nice little maelstrom of conflict. So when he announced a press conference today, many thought a resignation was imminent.

Instead, he essentially said and did nothing. He renewed his “commitment” to the president and the office, and would only say this when pressed on the “moron” comment:

“I’m not going to deal with petty stuff like that…This is what I don’t understand about Washington. Again, I’m not from this place. But the places I come from, we don’t deal with that kind of petty nonsense.”

Well, shucks, lil’ ole Rex is just plumb puzzled as pie at these junkyard media dogs!

Here’s all you need to know: He wouldn’t deny calling him a moron, he’s not resigning, and Trump will probably fire him soon because his ego can’t take that kind of very public insubordination for long.
