Photo by Jim Rogash/GettySomething is happening right now and it’s so incredible I’m not even sure I believe it.
I’m just going to give you what I have.

No, you’re not seeing things.
Landon Donovan might be coming out of retirement.
Donovan, of course, announced two years ago that he was moving on from the sport. Though he has remained vague about his reasons for retiring— saying mostly that he had lost his “passion” for the game— it did follow a World Cup in which he was conspicuously absent. He played his last game for the United States in October of that year (a 1-1 draw with Ecuador) and capped off his playing career in December by lifting the MLS Cup with the LA Galaxy.
Since then he’s mostly tried to enjoy retirement by doing all the travelling and relaxing he never quite had time for during his playing career. He still does some work for the Galaxy in an ambassador-type role, mostly through their charitable operations.
Nothing’s official right now, but this looks more and more like it’s legit.
Can confirm @blakecthomsen report on Donovan being in talks to come out of retirement. Story to follow soon. #usmnt#lagalaxy

If this holds up, American soccer is about to have its own Michael Jordan story. (Sans the minor league baseball.)
Then again:
Landon is sitting on his couch eating Cheetos and cold pizza, and he’s still one of MLS’s Top 5 midfielders.
