Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale Renewed for Fourth Season

In the midst of its third season, The Handmaid’s Tale has been renewed for a fourth season on Hulu.

Elisabeth Moss’ Offred will be back for more in the show’s fourth season, which currently does not have a premiere date. Since its start in 2017, the show has become a signature series for Hulu, winning over 10 Emmy Awards and even two Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Drama and Moss’ performance.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale is set in the totalitarian society of Gilead, which was once part of the U.S. There, social class and hierarchy trump all, and fertile women are forced to mother children for the higher-class individuals. The show is currently in its third season, with three episodes left.

Other than Moss, the series stars Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella and O.T. Fagbenle. The series was created by Bruce Miller, and Miller, Moss, Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken, Eric Tuchman, John Weber, Sheila Hockin and Frank Siracusa all executive produce.

The renewal news was announced at the Television Critics Association’s Summer Press Tour Friday, where, alongside The Handmaid’s Tale’s renewal, Hulu detailed a slew of forthcoming projects for the streaming platform, including Mindy Kaling’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, an adaptation of John Green’s Looking for Alaska and a new comedy series from Amy Schumer, among other titles.
